The same tank after cleaning, with clean walls and floor

Most homes in Qatar store their Kahramaa supply before it reaches the taps, usually in a ground or underground tank that feeds a roof tank above. The water arrives treated, but a tank that is rarely opened can collect sand, sediment, rust flakes and algae, and summer heat warms roof tanks for months at a time. Kahramaa's own household guidance recommends inspecting tanks at least every two months and cleaning and disinfecting them at least once every six to ten months. Our water tank cleaning service in Qatar drains, scrubs, disinfects and rinses your tanks, then refills them and flushes the house pipes. We work across Doha, Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan, Al Khor and nearby areas.

Draining & Sediment Removal

We start by closing the valve that feeds the tank and draining it completely, at a time agreed with you so the household can plan its water use. With the tank empty, we inspect the walls, floor and ceiling for cracks, damaged lining or loose fittings, and check the cover and overflow for gaps where dust, insects or birds could get in. We then wash down the inside with a high-pressure hose and scrub the walls and base to lift the slime, algae and sediment that settle over time. This layer is a common reason water turns cloudy, tastes stale or leaves grit in filters and shower heads. All wash water and sludge are removed before disinfection.

Sterilising & Cleaning Record

Once the tank is clean, we disinfect the walls and base with a chlorine solution suitable for drinking-water systems, at a strength of at least 50 mg/L, and leave it for at least two hours, the contact time Kahramaa recommends for household tanks. The tank is then rinsed to remove chlorine residue, refilled with fresh water and closed tightly. Where you have both a ground and a roof tank, we clean them in sequence and finish by running the taps to flush the internal pipes. A faint chlorine smell may linger for a while; Kahramaa notes it is harmless and fades on its own. On request, we provide a written record of the work, including the date and the steps completed.

Safety, guarantee and cost

Safety and water quality

Working inside a tank is confined-space work, so our trained team follows safe-entry precautions, with ventilation and a second person standing by outside the tank throughout. The disinfectant is chlorine-based and suitable for drinking-water systems, which is the method Kahramaa describes for household tanks, and it is rinsed out before refilling. Pumps are switched off and electrical connections kept dry while we work. If you have a water filter or softener, we recommend replacing or flushing its cartridges after cleaning so old sediment does not return to the clean system.

Our cleaning guarantee

Every tank we clean is covered by our quality guarantee. If the water does not run clear after cleaning, or you notice a problem linked to our work, contact us and we will inspect the tank and, where needed, re-clean it in line with our guarantee terms. Issues caused by damaged pipework or cracks in the tank itself may need a plumber or repair rather than another clean, and we will point them out.

What affects the cost of tank cleaning

Tank cleaning is priced job by job rather than at one flat rate. The main factors are the number of tanks and their capacity, whether they sit underground, at ground level or on the roof, how easy the access hatch is to reach, the tank material, and how much sediment has built up since the last cleaning. Buildings with several tanks are quoted individually. Prices start from 100 QAR per tank. Call or message us with the tank size and location for a free consultation.

Signs your water tank needs cleaning

  • Cloudy, yellowish or brown water from the taps
  • A musty, earthy or unusual smell or taste
  • Sand or grit in filters, tap aerators and shower heads
  • Six months or more since the tank was last cleaned
  • After a dust storm, or if the tank cover was left open
  • Moving into a villa or returning from a long trip
  • Visible slime or algae inside the tank or under the lid

Our water tank cleaning process

  1. Shut-off & draining

We close the valve feeding the tank, agree the timing with you so you can store the water you need beforehand, and then drain the ground and roof tanks fully.

  2. Inspection

With the tank empty, we check the walls, floor, ceiling, cover and fittings for cracks, gaps or damage, and tell you about anything that needs a plumber or a repair.

  3. Scrubbing & sludge removal

The inside surfaces are washed with a high-pressure hose and scrubbed by hand, then the wash water and loosened sediment are drained out from the base of the tank.

  4. Disinfection & rinsing

A chlorine solution suitable for drinking-water systems is applied to the walls and base and left for the recommended contact time, then the tank is rinsed until the residue is gone.

  5. Refill, flush & close

We refill with fresh water and seal the cover tightly, pump water up to the roof tank once it has been cleaned, and run the taps to flush the house pipework.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a water tank be cleaned in Qatar?

Kahramaa's household guidance recommends inspecting your tank at least every two months and cleaning and disinfecting it at least once every six to ten months. A twice-yearly routine, for example before and after the summer, fits within that range and is easy to remember. Clean sooner if the water changes colour, smell or taste, or if the tank has been left uncovered.

How long does it take, and will I be without water?

It depends on the size and number of tanks; a villa with one ground tank and one roof tank takes about 4 hours. The supply from each tank is off while it is drained, cleaned and disinfected, including the disinfectant contact time. We agree the time with you in advance so you can store drinking water and plan around it.

Is the chlorine safe, and will the water taste of it?

Chlorine is the disinfectant Kahramaa recommends for household tanks, and we rinse the tank after disinfection before refilling it. You may notice a faint chlorine taste or smell for a while afterwards; Kahramaa notes this is harmless and fades within about two weeks at most. Running the taps for a few minutes helps clear it from the pipes.

What should I do with my tank if I travel for the summer?

Water left standing for weeks in a hot tank gradually loses its protection. Kahramaa advises that if a home is left for more than two weeks, chlorine should be added to the tank before the water is used again. You can also book a full clean and disinfection when you return, so you start with fresh water after the summer break.

Do you provide a cleaning certificate?

Yes. On request we provide a written cleaning record from our company showing the date, the tanks cleaned and the steps completed, which is useful for landlords, building managers and tenants. If your building management needs a particular format, let us know when you book.

Do you offer water tank cleaning in Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan and Lusail?

Yes. We clean residential water tanks across Qatar, including Doha, Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan, Al Khor, Umm Salal and Lusail. Call +974 5048 3231 or send a WhatsApp message with your location, tank sizes and a photo of the access hatch, and we will arrange a convenient time.
